Bill's Story

Maroondah Prevention and Recovery Care Service (PARC)

Maroondah PARC provides  ‘step-up-step-down’ care for residents in a safe and supportive environment. The residents are people who don’t need hospital care for mental illness but temporary support to help them prepare to continue their lives within their homes and communities

  • Up to ten adults (aged 16 – 64 years)
  • People who live within the municipality of Maroondah and Outer East catchment area
  • People for who a short period of targeted support and structured activities can help maintain mental health and prevent relapse;
  • People who are having a mental health crisis and whose usual living arrangements may be in danger of breaking down
  • People who are supported by carers whose supports are at risk of breaking down
  • People who require 24-hour support to avoid a hospital admission
  • People who need a supportive environment in which to recover before going home after a hospital admission

The focus is on recovery, education and linkages back to the community.

Eastern Health maintains overall clinical responsibility for the program and provides experienced staff to enable high quality medical and nursing care to all PARC clients. Mind has responsibility for the day–to-day residential care component of the PARC service and a focus on psychosocial aspects of recovery.

The PARC service provides:

  • A supportive, friendly and caring atmosphere where residents feel a sense of belonging and companionship
  • Stimulating daily individual and group activities
  • Support to gain or regain independence in personal, domestic and community skills
  • Help to regain confidence and self-esteem
  • Help with regaining confidence and effective life skills
  • Information, advice and support on mental health treatments
  • The opportunity to establish personal recovery plans and strategies for putting them into action

All referrals are managed by clinical services of Eastern Health.   For new referrals call the 24/7 triage service on 1300 721 927. For current consumers of Eastern Health Mental Health Service call the PARC clinician on 9871 3931.
