Trelowarren House

A supportive residential community for adults recovering from mental illness

What Trelowarren House does

Trelowarren offers a supportive environment that encourages and assists the process of engagement and recovery. We offer a flexible residential psychosocial recovery program for 15 adults who have experienced mental health issues. Trelowarren is a transitional program with residents staying for up to 2 years.

Who can live at Trelowarren House

The residential program provides services to adults aged 20 – 64 recovering from a mental illness and who may also be at risk of homelessness. Services are available to people living in the Cities of Stonnington, Port Phillip, Glen Eira, , Greater Dandenong, Bayside, Casey, Cardinia, Monash, Kingston, Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula. As staff are not available overnight or weekends, a level of personal independence and competence in living skills is required.

Where

Trelowarren House is a large Victorian House surrounded by gardens, situated in a residential part of Armadale. 15 adults can reside in the program at one time, sharing a main communal living space, with individual bedrooms. Trelowarren House is close to shops and public transport.

What the program aims to do

Trelowarren House provides engagement opportunities that assist adults with a psychiatric disability to develop independent living skills and encourage ownership of their own recovery. It provides individuals with challenges, resources and opportunities to make positive changes within a supportive environment. The program enhances local community linkages, enabling individuals to further their vocational, educational and recreational interests. Each resident is allocated a key-worker and they work together to achieve agreed recovery goals. There is a structured program which residents are expected to actively participate in.

How to access the program

The referral process is usually initiated by telephone. Referrals can be made to the program by a Mental Health Service, Self-referral, a family member, friend or worker. As part of the selection process there is an informal visit to the program to provide information and to meet staff and residents. Referral forms are provided if the applicant wishes to continue with the selection process.  Applicants are required to attend an assessment interview before being offered a place at Trelowarren House. Part of this assessment includes up to one month in-reach support, with prospective applicants attending the program twice weekly.
