The Peel Active Recovery Team is for people who are experiencing mental health and wellbeing challenges that adversely impact aspects of someone’s day to day life.

It provides a blend of clinical and psychosocial supports that help people manage mental distress and alcohol and other drug (AOD) issues, and avoid repetitive presentations to Emergency Departments.

The Peel Active Recovery Team is located in the Peel Health Campus in Mandurah.

About the Peel Active Recovery Team

People who access support from the Active Recovery Team are provided with coordinated, responsive, and tailored wrap-around treatment for up to 90 days.

The service is delivered by multidisciplinary teams (including specialist mental health clinical staff and Mind community mental health and peer practitioners), who will take on a case management approach dependent on the person’s needs.

Each Active Recovery Team participant has an individual recovery plan that includes a transition plan following discharge from the program. Care plans will have input from both clinical and Mind services, and will be developed in consultation with the participant and their loved ones.

The partnership between the clinical and Mind services brings together integrated care options consisting of:

  • consultant psychiatrists, clinical nurse specialists, social workers, occupational therapists and/or Aboriginal mental health workers.
  • Mind staff including community mental health practitioners, peer practitioners and alcohol and other drug (AOD) workers.

The Peel Active Recovery team is funded by the WA Mental Health Commission.

Who is the Active Recovery Team program for?

The program is designed to engage and support individuals who repeatedly present to Emergency Departments (EDs) in crisis, and those with a history of severe and enduring mental illness and multiple complex needs who have been difficult to engage.

Support from the Peel Active Recovery Team is for people aged between 18 and 64 years living in the Peel region.

How do I register my interest in the Active Recovery Team program?

Referrals may come from:

  • Emergency Departments
  • inpatient mental health and medical wards
  • other community mental health services
  • non-government organisations (NGOs)
  • government organisations, and
  • general practitioners (GPs) and private practitioners.

All referrals for the program will be triaged by the Clinical Team - Assessment Treatment Team (ATT) based at Peel Health Campus. Once accepted into the program, joint recovery planning will be undertaken and service delivery will commence.
