One Door Mental Health is now taking applications for the 2025 Peter Meyer Research Grant – a $15,000 grant that funds innovative research that enhances the wellbeing of people living with schizophrenia.
The Peter Meyer Research Grant was established to support young researchers aged 35 and under in New South Wales in honour of the late Peter Daniel Meyer, who passed away in 2003 living with paranoid schizophrenia for more than 15 years.
The grant supports projects exploring causes, recovery approaches, and psychosocial factors related to schizophrenia. Examples of research projects include:
- research into the underlying factors contributing to experiences of schizophrenia, including psychosocial, trauma-related, or developmental influences
- development and evaluation of approaches that support recovery for people living with schizophrenia
- exploration of psychosocial factors and their impact on the lived experience of schizophrenia
- enhancement of psychosocial support services to empower individuals with schizophrenia in their recovery journeys.
One Door Executive Director Kathi Boorman said One Door has had the honour of delivering the Peter Meyer Research Grant for 22 years.
“One Door is proud to continue Peter Meyer’s legacy and support much-needed research efforts that will help improve the lives of people experiencing schizophrenia, as well as the lives of their families, carers and supporters,” Ms Boorman said.
Applications for the 2025 Peter Meyer Research Grant close at 5 pm on Friday 8 August 2025. Applications are open to individuals or teams and must align with the fund’s mission. Projects funded by the Peter Meyer Research Grant must be completed within two years.
