Mind is an innovator and sector leader in the field of outcome measurement. Mind’s investment in outcome measures since 2019 has helped to ensure that our services are innovative and impactful and that our organisation can play a role in influencing key funders and decision makers.

Through a strong focus on design and dedicated implementation support, Mind has overcome common barriers associated with outcome measurement and achieved ongoing high rates of completion. Working closely with key stakeholders to design program logics ensures we are measuring meaningful outcomes that can be used to identify areas for practice improvement. Identifying stakeholders and meeting their information needs is also key to ensuring the survey tool is effectively used in services, with easy-to-use technology and visual summaries of service user results available in real time.

Our expertise in outcome measures allows Mind to be positioned as a top provider of recovery-oriented and person-centred support throughout Australia. We continue to build our digital outcome measures capability to support service design, innovation, service improvement and to influence the broader service system and policy environment.

The purpose of outcome measures at Mind is to:

  • Enhance person-centred support through data. We take a person-centred approach to completing outcome measures that ensures it adds value for the service user and staff. A priority with our outcome measures is to ensure service users have access to their data to reflect on their progress and inform support planning.
  • Strengthen evidence-based practice and service improvement. We conduct impact measurement to identify where our services are effective for service users and where service improvement may be required. Our evaluations are a source of reliable and robust evidence in measuring impact and best practices.
  • Provide evidence that influences system reform. The research team provides evidence that underpins Mind’s advocacy and thought leadership. Service impact data and evidence briefs also support advocacy and policy work in the broader mental health system.
  • Support evidence-informed decision making. Excellence from outcome measures at Mind promotes a culture of data-driven decision making for practice improvement and overall management of the enterprise.
