Mind supports personal recovery and promotes wellbeing.
Recovery is often described as a journey of personal discovery which includes new learning on how to live well.
Depression is a serious illness which is much more than feeling sad. A depressed person will have persistent feelings of being so low that they no longer enjoy the things they once did and cannot function as usual. Symptoms include loss of interest in life, feeling worthless or guilty, significant weight changes, sleeping too little or too much, a loss of interest in sex, feeling teary, afraid or perhaps irritable. At its worst, a person may be at risk of suicide. Depression responds well to treatment, which may include medication, counselling and exercise.
