Mental health consumer organisations
The following organisations provide information, training, support and advice to consumer of mental health services.
Our Consumer Place is a resource centre located in Victoria, run entirely by people diagnosed with mental illness. It provides information, training, support and advice to consumer run projects and consumer developed initiatives.
The VMIAC is the peak Victorian non-government organization for people who have experience with a mental illness or emotional distress.
The VMIAC provides the following services:
- Advocacy and representation for mental health consumers
- Information and peer support
- Research and evaluation
- Education and training
Health Issues Centre is an independent, not for profit organization that began in 1985 to promote equity and consumer perspectives in the Australian health system. The focus of the organization’s work is mainly in Victoria but it takes a national approach where appropriate. It works with a wide range of consumers, health providers, researchers, governments and other health organizations.
Peak bodies of community mental health services
VICSERV is a membership-based organisation and the peak body representing community mental health services in Victoria.
The Mental Health Coalition of South Australia is the peak body for the non-government mental health sector in South Australia.
