Peer Recovery Community (PRC) - BRUNSWICK WEST

At our Peer Recovery Community, you'll receive 1:1 support. Guided by an assessment of your strengths and areas you'd like support with, you will have your own individual recovery plan. You will be able to participate in peer learning workshops, which increase confidence and knowledge in: understanding the mental health system; individual recovery; building on personal strengths; fitting in within a community; creating a satisfying life; and re-establishing and maintaining supportive relationships. The combination of the workshops and individual support allows personal development and growth. Residents usually stay for a period of up to 12 months.

Who for:

People who need a lot of support to recover from mental illness and build independent living skills in a safe, home-like environment.

How to access:

Access is via the Mental Health Community Support Services (MHCSS) intake system which for Brunswick West is through Neami on 1300 379 462.
People eligible for a place must be between the ages of 16-64yrs, be assessed as having disability associated with a psychiatric condition and limited capacity for social and economic participation. Applicants must have a preparedness to participate in peer group work, and be committed to personal growth.

Site description

The Peer Recovery Community-Brunswick West is located in a quiet residential neighbourhood. The property is made up of six townhouses. The staff offices, sleepover room, meeting rooms, communal kitchen and communal lounge are located in one townhouse. The remaining five townhouses are three bedroom share houses that are double story buildings with large kitchen and dining area, laundry, shared bathroom and toilet and lounge room area. The six townhouses are joined by a private central courtyard area that has a veggie garden, seating area and BBQ. We are close to public transport and local shops situated approximately five minutes walk away at the intersection of Moreland and Melville Roads. There is a park 100 metres from the property.
