The Youth Prevention and Recovery Care (YPARC) service in Parkville provides young people experiencing mental health challenges with short-term residential support and access to clinical and psychosocial care.

The 20-bed, community-based service supports young people to work towards their recovery goals, develop skills and confidence, and transition safely back to the community.

About Youth Prevention and Recovery Care

Parkville YPARC provides holistic, recovery-oriented support in a safe and compassionate environment for young people aged 16–25.

The service provides a ‘step up’ from the community for young people who need additional support to help prevent hospital admission. It also provides a ‘step down’ from hospital, supporting you with your recovery and transition back to the community.

During your stay, you can access a range of individual and group supports, including:

  • one-on-one support
  • peer support
  • daily living skill development
  • group and individual educational activities
  • opportunities to connect and socialise with other young people
  • social activities and events, including karaoke, games nights and family dinners

At Parkville YPARC, you will have your own private bedroom with an ensuite bathroom. The service also features shared spaces including a kitchen, art room, visitors’ lounge, laundry, breakout spaces, and communal living and dining areas.

Parkville YPARC is delivered in partnership by Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (PYMHWS) and Mind Australia.

Who is Youth Prevention and Recovery Care for?

Parkville YPARC supports young people aged 16–25 who are experiencing mental health challenges and need short-term, intensive recovery support.

The service is designed for young people who may need additional support to help prevent admission to hospital, or who are transitioning out of hospital and would benefit from further support before returning to the community.

Why choose Mind for sub-acute residential recovery care?

Mind Australia is one of the country’s largest providers of community-managed psychosocial services, offering residential, mobile outreach, centre-based and online support. We provide individualised, evidence-based and recovery-focused support to more than 25,000 people each year.

We partner with health, community, and government organisations to provide holistic support and a safe environment for people experiencing mental health challenges to live in the community.

Mind has supported people, and their families, friends, carers and supporters, for nearly 50 years. Some of our most important lessons have come not from a textbook, but from people who have walked these paths themselves. This lived experience continues to shape everything we do.

Many people across our workforce draw on their own experiences of mental health challenges, recovery and supporting others to improve services, influence the sector and drive change.

Mind has been working with young people for more than 25 years. We have an established range of youth services across Australia, including youth residential services, Youth Prevention and Recovery Care (YPARC), Youth Step Up Step Down (YSUSD), youth residential rehabilitation, youth outreach services and headspace centres.
