Safe, stable homes with support for people living with mental health challenges

Haven Wodonga provides long-term, affordable, purpose-built housing for people experiencing mental health challenges.

Our model provides secure housing with a foundational level of NDIS-funded support, creating a stable environment where residents can build independence, wellbeing and meaningful connections.

Residents live in modern, self-contained apartments designed to support privacy, dignity and a sense of home, while also benefiting from onsite support delivered by Mind’s qualified psychosocial disability support workers.

At Haven Wodonga, residents have the security of long-term tenancies, combined with a supportive, recovery-oriented environment that promotes independence, connection and wellbeing. Our housing and support model ensures everyone has access to the foundations required to thrive.

Housing and Support

At a Haven residence, people use their NDIS funding collectively with fellow residents to get the most out of their NDIS plans. This means that assistance with everyday tasks can be shared, which benefits everyone at the Haven.

The tenancy and support model is designed to:

1. Help residents to live independently

Our specialised tenancy management team facilitates safe and stable tenancies by providing clear tenancy management, practical information and early identification of tenancy issues. The team manages leases, property standards and tenancy obligations, and can offer guidance or connect residents with support when additional help is needed. For general renting information, see Consumer Affairs Victoria’s Renters Guide.: Renters Guide - Consumer Affairs Victoria

2. Support residents to develop a healthy lifestyle and routine

Our onsite support team can help residents build routines, confidence and engagement in activities that reflect their personal goals and wellbeing priorities.

3. Promote personal recovery

Onsite support is provided by Psychosocial Disability Support Workers and delivered in line with the NDIS recovery framework.

With everyone contributing to the base NDIS model, the community benefits from predictable staffing, consistent supports and a cohesive, recovery-focused environment.

While living in a Haven residence, residents can access:

  • Support staff during the day, with rosters shaped around the needs of each Haven community. Support hours can be extended when required.
  • Opportunities to join psychosocial recovery groups that build skills, confidence, community participation, and a sense of belonging.
  • Individual support
  • Connections to local health and community services

We invite applications from people who:

  • Require a long-term, high quality, stable housing
  • Are eligible for social housing through the Victorian Housing Register
  • May benefit from onsite daytime support
  • Are willing to contribute funding to Mind’s base NDIS support model
  • Want to live in a community setting with others and share some support
  • Can live independently with supports available to them
  • Want a safe, supportive living environment with access to recovery and goals focused activities
  • Have long term mental health and well-being concerns

Eligibility is based on social housing requirements and NDIS access for the base support model.

What do our Haven residents say?

“The wonderful thing is that all the residents have their own space and choose what they want to take part in or what support they need – we all have the chance to actively work on our recovery alongside one another and Mind staff.” - Heather, Haven Frankston

“I’ve been in hospital quite a few times for a few years while I’ve suffered. But now since living at Haven I don’t have hospital visits anymore.” - Shaun, Haven Pakenham

“The community at Haven Pakenham is great; before I came here I only had my family, but here it’s different because you are around people like you. You get along because they understand what you’re going through.” - Darren, Haven Pakenham
