Mind’s Armadale Psychosocial residential rehabilitation service provides people who have significant mental health challenges with accommodation and a time-limited, rehabilitation focused program to help them build their capacity to live independently.

Our Psychosocial residential services provide programmatic rehabilitation support for people to focus on their recovery in medium-term accommodation, in a supportive community environment.

This service provides time-limited rehabilitation. Residents develop a greater understanding of their mental health, learn life skills like confidence and connection with others, and receive support with activities of daily living to continually build their capacity to live independently. They have genuine co-design input into individual and group support sessions. We use our unique My Better Life tool to help build a high quality, program of support tailored to their unique needs and NDIS plan goals in partnership with their family, carers and Mind practitioners.

About the service

Located in the leafy suburb of Armadale – an inner suburb of Melbourne – this property includes an extensive garden block, complete with a vegetable garden and resident chickens. It is close to High Street shops and public transport. The residence features a communal relaxation room and art room and an on-site staff office. All residents sign a Residential Tenancy Agreement with a registered Community Housing Agency.

Who is Psychosocial residential rehabilitation for?

Mind’s Armadale Psychosocial residential rehabilitation services are designed for people who have significant mental health and wellbeing concerns which have impacted their capacity to live independently.

This service is for people requiring psychosocial residential rehabilitation, in a peer recovery environment, with 24/7 support.

In most cases, residents fund their Psychosocial residential rehabilitation service via their NDIS package. Residents typically choose help with:

  • better understanding their mental illness and developing strategies to manage mental health
  • decision making, daily planning and budgeting
  • engaging in a community with other peers who share common goals around recovery, acceptance and inclusivity
  • developing meaningful connections in the broader community
  • building skills for shopping and cooking for healthy eating
  • written communication skills, including filling in forms
  • learning to maintain a household with tasks such as laundry and cleaning
  • developing and maintaining connections with family and friends
  • getting ready for the day and other personal care tasks
  • building skills and capacity to live independently

Why choose Mind for Housing with support services?

We have been providing mental health and wellbeing support to people, and their families, friends and carers, for more than 45 years. Every individual's journey to a life of meaning and purpose is unique, which is why our services are flexible and offer genuine choice and control.

We work with residents and their families, friends and carers to build a high quality, program of support tailored to their unique needs and NDIS plan goals. Our qualified staff work in partnership with residents and their family, friends and carers to strengthen personal skills and build independence.

We promote a sense of community in our housing services to encourage residents to share and support each other, including taking part in group activities.

Some of our Housing staff are peer workers – people with lived experience of mental ill-health. Our peer workers lead skills-based peer learning workshops with residents among other work. We are a leading employer of people with lived experience, recognising their unique ability to connect with and motivate clients and guide recovery.

Mind is also working with the NDIA as a chosen provider to pilot a new home and living support approach for NDIS participants with a psychosocial disability. Find out more about the Home and Living Demonstration Project here
