What is Allied Health?

Everybody’s journey to a life of meaning and purpose is unique which is why our Allied Health services take a collaborative approach with the people accessing our services.

We create a tailored plan built around individual recovery goals and provide flexible support options to people in their homes, in the community and via telehealth.

Our Allied Health professionals provide a broad range of technical, therapeutic and direct health services to improve the mental health and wellbeing of the people who access our services, including:

  • Occupational Therapy: Occupation refers to the things we do in our everyday lives that help us live in the community. Mind’s occupational therapists use a person centred, evidence-based approach in diagnosis, treatment and recovery of physical and mental health challenges.
  • Psychology: Psychology refers to how people behave, think and feel. Mind’s psychologists are experts in human behaviour who work with people who access our services to live a life of purpose and meaning in the community.
  • Counselling: Counselling refers to conversations with a trained professional that work to help you work through difficulties in your life. Our Counsellors are trained mental health professionals who define and work towards personalised recovery goals with the people who access our services.
  • Social work: Social workers take the time needed to build relationships with people so that together they can consider all aspects of their situation, including their strengths and capacities, as well as the areas where they need help. They offer solutions, supports and pathways that make sense in the context of the person’s environment, preferences and abilities.

At Mind, there are two types of social worker you can access:

  • Social Worker / Accredited Social Worker:  These are trained professionals that can help you to work through challenges in your life, they can provide counselling and assist you to work towards your personalised recovery goals.  They can help also help you navigate and access information, advice and support services
  • Accredited Mental Health Social Workers (AMHSW) are social workers that have undertaken additional training and have specific experience supporting people with mental health challenges.  AMHSWs are qualified to provide clinical assessment and to deliver Focused Psychological Therapies similar to Psychologists.  They are also able to register to provide Medicare services
